GIANT FOOD ALERTS CUSTOMERS TO VOLUNTARY RECALL OF WOODSTOCK WALNUT HALVES & PIECES
Landover, Md. (June 5, 2016) – Following a recall by Woodstock Farms Manufacturing, Inc., Giant Food, LLC announced it removed from sale Woodstock Walnut Halves & Pieces due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.
These products are safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a peanut allergy. The Food and Drug Administration advises consumers with severe peanut allergies to avoid the recalled products because of peanut residue in these products. The amount of peanut exposure from use of the recalled products is low and not expected to cause adverse health effects in the vast majority of peanut allergic consumers.
The following products are included in this recall:
- Woodstock Walnut Halves & Pieces, 6oz., UPC 4256300860 with best by dates of 4/1/2017 and 4/15/2017 and a lot number of 16092 or 16106
Giant has received no reports of illnesses to date. Listeria is a common organism found in nature. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.
Customers who have purchased these products should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.
