Giant’s A+ School Rewards Program Kicks off 2015 with ‘Fighting Hunger Challenge’
Participating Schools to Host Food Drives for Food Banks, Pantries and Soup Kitchens
Landover, Md. (January 7, 2015) – To help provide hunger relief to those in need, Giant Food is kicking off the new year with the launch of its A+ School Rewards Fighting Hunger Challenge, a contest calling on schools to host food drives benefitting local food banks, pantries, and soup kitchens. The schools that construct the best creative displays utilizing the donated goods will be awarded an extra $1,000 added to their year-end A+ Rewards earnings.
The challenge runs from January 1, 2015 to February 13, 2015 and is open to ALL schools (public or private) in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware that are currently registered in the A+ School Rewards Program. To participate in the challenge,
- Choose a local, registered not-for-profit food bank, soup kitchen or food pantry and conduct a food drive at your school to collect nonperishable food items
- Build a unique and creative Fighting Hunger Display using the donated items from the food drive and place in a prominent area of your school
- Submit a photograph of your Fighting Hunger Display indicating the name of your chosen local, registered not-for-profit food bank, soup kitchen or food pantry
The food items will be donated to the designated food bank, pantry or soup kitchen at the conclusion of the Challenge. Schools are divided into three brackets based on enrollment size, with the top two schools in each bracket winning $1,000 each. The winning Fighting Hunger Display photos will be posted on the Giant Food social media pages (www.facebook.com/GiantFood, www.twitter.com/giantfood).Online entries must be submitted by February 13, 2015 at email@example.com.
