Local Farmers Partner with Giant Food to Make Produce Available at All Giant Stores

Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables Perfect for Backyard Barbecues and Summer Fun!

Landover, Md. (June 30, 2014) – Giant Food is pleased to announce, in partnership with more than sixty-three local farmers, an array of farm fresh produce grown within your local community is now available at all Giant Food stores. Among the popular local produce items that are currently in season and available at Giant Food are corn, tomatoes, green beans, mushrooms, squash, blueberries, cucumbers and green peppers.

“Giant Food prides itself in supplying our customers with the freshest, highest-quality groceries possible,” said Gordon Reid, president, Giant Food. “We are pleased to enhance our relationship with the local grower community and connect all of our shoppers with the very best seasonal fruits and vegetables grown nearby.”

With the summer growing and harvesting season now in full swing, enhance your next backyard barbecue with locally grown, fresh produce. Both fruits and vegetables are great to throw on the grill when seasoned with your favorite herbs and spices, and make for favorable side dishes or desserts.

All Giant Food stores feature a fun photo cutout in the produce department. Customers are encouraged to snap a photo of themselves or their family with the cutout and post to Giant Food’s Facebook page now through the end of July for a chance to win a $25 gift card and a canvas bag. Two winners will be drawn each week.

Customers can visit to find complete information about Giant Foods local produce including, recipes and cooking tips for fresh summer produce, a complete list and map of where the produce is from and videos of featured local farmers.
