Giant Food and Nabisco Join Together to Support Capital Area Food Bank

Nabisco Products and 1,000 Turkeys to Be Donated

Landover, Md. (November 19, 2014)– To help ensure those most in need in the local community enjoy a Thanksgiving meal, Nabisco and Giant Food will be on hand today at the Capital Area Food Bank starting at 2 p.m. to donate 1,000 turkeys and a trailer filled with Nabisco products to Washington D.C.’s largest hunger relief agency.

In addition to Wednesday’s activities, in-store displays at Giant locations in the D.C. region are encouraging shoppers to make a donation to the Capital Area Food Bank this holiday season.

“Fighting hunger is one of our main charitable giving missions, year-round. During the holidays, it’s even more important for us to aid families in need in our local communities,” said Jamie Miller, community and public relations manager, Giant Food. “We have enjoyed a relationship with the Capital Area Food Bank for over 30 years and we are excited for this opportunity to partner with Nabisco to raise even more awareness in support of hunger relief efforts.”

Earlier this month, Giant kicked off its annual turkey drive supporting the Food Bank of Delaware, Maryland Food Bank, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank with turkey donations. The 5,000 turkeys will help feed thousands in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from Nabisco and Giant Food to help our efforts in providing more nutritious meals to children and families in need,” said Nancy Roman, Capital Area Food Bank President and CEO. “Hunger has tremendous short and long-term detrimental effects, especially on children, and this donation will help ensure that children in need can grow into healthy, productive adults.”
