Giant Food Launches Kid Healthy Ideas Magazine

Free health and wellness publication geared toward helping kids live healthier lifestyles

Landover, Md. (April 20, 2012) – In support of its ongoing effort to fight childhood obesity and help kids live healthier lifestyles, Giant Food of Landover, Md. today announced that the first issue of its brand new health and wellness magazine, Kid Healthy Ideas, is now available in all 173 neighborhood stores. The free,12-page, full color publication is geared toward kids ages eight to 12 and features health-related educational articles, games, and recipes.

“We’re very excited to launch Kid Healthy Ideas and hope that children and parents together use it as a resource for healthy living,” said Anthony Hucker, president, Giant Food of Landover, Md. “So often, healthy eating begins at the grocery store, and Giant is proud to offer easy ways to make healthy choices.”

Published on a quarterly basis, all Kid Healthy Ideas articles are written by nutritionists, expert associates, and community health partners. Parents and kids can obtain their free copy of Kid Healthy Ideas in the produce department of their neighborhood Giant as well as at the front of stores, near the weekly circulars. Kid Healthy Ideas is also available online at

Giant has long been committed to supporting health and wellness initiatives through programs and partnerships. In 2009, Giant launched Healthy Ideas, an exclusive product labeling system that helps identify nutritious options through shelf tags. Shortly thereafter, Giant unveiled Passport to Nutrition, a web-based program that educates children on nutrition and living healthy lifestyles in a fun and interactive way. In addition to partnering with the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington and working alongside the YMCA of Central Maryland, each neighborhood Giant sponsors at least one local softball or baseball team across the region.
