Neighborhood Grocer Commits to Nearly $2 Million for Mid-Atlantic Region Schools
Landover, Md. (August 29, 2013) – Giant Food of Landover, Md. customers can help earn money for their local schools when they grocery shop through Giant’s simple school fundraiser, A+ School Rewards. There is no limit to what schools can do with their A+ School Rewards, including earning cash for technology, scholarships, school programs, field trips, playgrounds, and other educational needs.
Mater Dei School was last year’s top earner, receiving more than $26,700, and purchased new computers for the library, providing students and faculty with updated learning platforms. “This award will have an immediate and profound impact on our small independent school,” said Billy McMurtrie, Mater Dei School headmaster.
To participate in the program and help local schools earn money, customers must sign up each year and designate up to two schools by visiting their neighborhood Giant Food or at www.giantfood.com. A+ School Rewards are accrued with each purchase made using one’s Giant card beginning October 4 and continuing through March 20. Customers are encouraged to sign up or to re-designate their schools beginning September 1st, so their chosen schools can begin earning points when the program begins.
“In its 25th year, A+ School Rewards continues to be Giant’s flagship educational program,” said Anthony Hucker, president, Giant Food. “Hundreds of thousands of students and educators across Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Delaware have been able to benefit from this tremendous rewards initiative. Giant is proud to stand by our commitment to support and nurture the communities that make us the nation’s capital grocer.”
Beginning in November, current school totals can be found on the A+ website at www.giantfood.com/aplus. Since 1989, Giant customers have helped their local schools earn more than $88 million through A+ School Rewards.
