Landover, Md. (June 12, 2017) - Following a recall by High Liner Foods Giant Food, LLC announced it removed from sale Giant Food select cod products which may contain milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. This product is safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a milk allergy.

The following products are included in this recall:

  • Giant Food Panko Cod Sandwich, UPC 20738460000, Item # 200073846, All Date Codes
  • Giant Food Cod Fillet Sandwich, UPC 23718000000, Item # 200371800, All Date Codes
  • Giant Food Panko Cod Fillet, Case UPC 3549326645, Item # 60358, All Date Codes

These items were located in the hot bar and fried chicken warmer.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Landover, Md. (June 16, 2017) - Following a recall by Woodstock Farms Manufacturing, Inc., Giant Food, LLC announced it removed from sale Woodstock Organic Kumbaya Campfire Mix due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The following product is included in this recall:

  • Woodstock Organic Kumbaya Campfire Mix, 10oz., UPC 4256300936 with a best by date of 11/23/2017 and lot codes #17096, #17100 and #17124

Giant Food has received no reports of illnesses to date. Listeria is a common organism found in nature. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

Awards recognize academics, school and community service performed by area high school, college students

Landover, Md. (June 7, 2017) - Giant Food of Landover, Md. today announced the 2017 recipients of the Izzy Cohen Memorial Scholarship and the Esther Peterson Memorial Grant. The winners represent a variety of high schools and colleges in the Mid-Atlantic region and were selected based on academic merit, association with Giant Food, school and community service. The scholarships, which total $50,000, will be used to support post-secondary education.

“One cornerstone of Giant's commitment to being a better neighbor is our emphasis on education programs and assistance to students throughout the Mid-Atlantic region,” said Gordon Reid, President of Giant Food of Landover, Md. “We are delighted to provide both the Izzy Cohen Memorial Scholarship and the Esther Peterson Memorial Grant to these 20 students as they continue their education.”

As one of the original founders of Giant Food 81 years ago, Izzy Cohen held a strong belief in the power of training and education. The annual scholarship honors his memory by awarding 10 high school or college students a $4,000 scholarship, which is renewable for up to four years.

Esther Peterson was one of the most admired women in Giant Food's history, pioneering the use of nutritional and unit price labeling in Giant stores well before any other major food chain. Before joining Giant, she served as the nation's first presidentially-appointed consumer affairs advocate. The Esther Peterson Memorial Grant provides 10 additional, non-renewable awards of $1,000 each for continuing education or scholarship.

GIANT INTRODUCES THE FUEL REWARDS® PROGRAM GIVING CUSTOMERS A WAY TO SAVE EVEN MORE AT THE PUMP

Rewards combine for additional savings-per-gallon

Landover, Md. (June 5, 2017) - Giant Food of Landover, Md. announced today the expansion of its Gas Rewards program by adding the Fuel Rewards® program, an innovative coalition program enabling shoppers to earn fuel savings from participating retailers in addition to points earned through Giant purchases. Starting today, customers may earn additional cents off per gallon from Shell and other retailers that participate in the Fuel Rewards program. Combined fuel savings can be redeemed at Giant and participating Shell stations. Fuel savings can be earned by shopping online, dining out, booking travel and more. For a complete list of participating retailers, customers can visit www.fuelrewards.com.

Through Giant's existing Gas Rewards program, cardholders can enjoy savings from Giant on fuel at Giant and participating Shell gas stations up to $1.50/gallon. By opting in to the Fuel Rewards Program, cardholders can earn and redeem both Fuel Rewards savings and Giant Gas Rewards for larger fuel discounts which can exceed $1.50/gallon. Fuel savings earned through both programs are valid for a one-time use and limited to 20 gallons of fuel per purchase, per vehicle. And, starting today, new and current Fuel Rewards members will automatically be awarded Instant Gold Status, a loyalty tier that allows them to save at least five cents per gallon on every fill up to 20 gallons with any grade of Shell fuel.
